Poetry Now

Established in 2016, Poetry Now is an annual symposium on the research and writing of poetry, hosted by the Department of English and American Studies at Tel Aviv University.

The aim of Poetry Now is to share knowledge and foster dialogue between scholars, poets, poet-scholars, and translators. The symposium serves as a showcase for current work being done on, with, and in poetry, in Israel and beyond, with a focus on English-language poetry.

Presentations in Poetry Now have included various corpora, periods, and critical orientations; for example, on the “Body Poetic” (Poetry Now II, in collaboration with the Department of English at the University of Haifa) and “Poetry and Democracy at the Whitman Bicentennial” (Poetry Now III). Poetry Now IV was a student poetry reading within the Department of English and American Studies, marking the third issue of Caesura, a student-run literary journal.
