About

Over the last decades the discipline of history has greatly evolved. While social, political, cultural and technological changes reshaped our world, historical research took up new paths for the study of human society. Heretics and saints, women and men, the poor and the rich, memories and dreams, the book and print, fear and utopia – all became topics of research. The History department of Tel Aviv University is the place to explore them.
The history department specializes in the history of western culture, covering the regions in which the culture was born and the lands to which it expanded. The courses we offer span from antiquity – with the histories of Greece and Rome – through the Middle Ages and the Early modern period, to the late 20th century. Though the main emphasis of the program is the history of western and central Europe, in the modern period the geographical outlook expands to include also Russian and Eastern European history and the histories of Northern and Latin America.
