

Dr. Alex Valdman
Dr. Alex Valdman is a historian who focuses on the study of education among Russian-speaking Jews in Israel and Eastern Europe, with an emphasis on socio-cultural issues such as mobility, immigration, memory, and historical consciousness. In addition to his participation in the Jack Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Public Humanities, he is a researcher at the Center for Diaspora Studies at Tel Aviv University and serves as the head of the history track in the "Shvilim" program of the Kay Academic College of Education in Be'er Sheva. His recent articles include “A Miracle in Minsk: Secondary Education and Social Mobility in the Pale of Settlement before 1887,” published in Jewish Social Studies, and an article on the provincial origins of civil society in the Russian Empire, published in The Russian Review.
