Research & Teaching of the Humanities Program
Motzaei Da’at: Program for Research & Teaching in the Humanities
Motzaei Da'at, the Mandel Program for Research and Teaching of the Humanities, advances new approaches to humanistic education across Israel’s diverse educational settings, from schools to higher education and informal learning environments. The program works to expand meaningful engagement with the humanities, recognizing their essential role in a liberal and democratic society.
At a time of rapid technological transformation, demographic change, and shifting cultural horizons, Motzaei Da’at treats the teaching of the humanities as an evolving intellectual and pedagogical practice.
The program addresses urgent questions of how humanistic learning can respond to changing realities while preserving depth, critical reflection, and interpretive rigor.
Program Initiatives
Research Fellows – Pedagogical Innovation in the Humanities
A group of researchers in the humanities that studies, develops, and writes innovative teaching methods adapted to the needs of different populations and educational systems. The fellows are engaged in the development of pedagogical practices to make the humanities more relevant to the lives of students, and their implementation in various pedagogical projects in formal and informal education and institutions of higher education, in collaboration with teachers, students, and educators. The group meets for a monthly peer seminar, during which their work is presented and discussed.
Continuing Education for Teachers – Mutual Learning
The research fellows lead continuing education courses for teachers that focus on improving the teaching of the humanities in the education system. The courses offer an encounter between research and practical pedagogy, providing an opportunity to benefit from the accumulated experience of teachers in the field on the one hand and academic research on the other. The course is recognized by the Ministry of Education for remunerative purposes (g’mul histalmut).
Scholarships for Teachers – Support for Researchers in the Field
The program provides subsistence scholarships to outstanding doctoral students engaged in active teaching of the humanities in elementary, middle, and high schools. Scholarship recipients must focus on the study of humanities teaching in the education system, while bringing their academic experience to the educational field and enriching it.
