About

Dr. Shani Ebenstein Sigalov is an educator, lecturer, researcher, and free and open content activist. Her research is located at the intersection between education, technology, innovation, and open information. She developed the world's first academic courses on contributing to Wikipedia and Wikidata. Her doctoral dissertation, for which she won the Azrieli Foundation Fellowship for Research Fellows, deals with semantic networks as a learning platform, focusing on the case study of Wikidata. As part of her postdoctoral studies, she leads research on: the impact of generative AI on knowledge consumption and creation processes; the relationship between linked open data, the digital humanities, and the preservation of cultural and academic heritage; and processes of "critical ignoring" in digital curation processes. Shani also participates in research on Self-Regulated Learning (SRL). As a free content activist, she serves as the editor-in-chief of the Ben Yehuda Project and is the chairperson of the non-profit organization supporting the project. Shani is a member of the board of directors of the Public Knowledge Workshop; and sits on the board of trustees of the World Wikimedia Foundation.
