

Dr. Sharaf Hassan
Dr. Sharaf Hassan is a lecturer, researcher, and educator, who holds a Ph.D. in sociology from Tel Aviv University. His doctoral dissertation dealt with civil society organizations and the struggle for hegemony in civics education in Israel. From 2019 to 2021, he was a fellow at the Mandel School for Educational Leadership, prior to which he served as the director of the education department at the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, and was a teaching fellow in the Department of Sociology at Tel Aviv University. He currently heads the Department of Sociology and Social Sciences at Oranim College, and continues to teach civics at the Al-Khwarzami School in Tamra. Dr. Hassan is a social activist and has served since 2018 as the head of the Monitoring Committee for Arab Education (a professional and representative body that deals with the promotion of education in Arab society). In 2024, he was awarded the Emil Grunzweig Human Rights Award for his work on human rights, peace, and democracy, and especially for equal education. His interests include the education system, civics education in Israel, human rights and anti-racism education, social inequality, multiculturalism, the Arab minority in Israel, civil society, and social activism.
