Research Fellowships
Since 2006 the Institute for the History of Polish Jewry and Israel-Poland Relations has been supporting PhD students and early career scholars with a PhD, who are enrolled in or affiliated with Polish universities, and whose research projects centre on the history and culture of Polish Jewry. Every year in mid December a Call for Applications for the following academic year is circulated among the major Jewish study centres in Poland, and the deadline for applications is set to March. Currently, The Institute offers two grants for PhD students and one grant for scholars. PhD students are required to spend one whole semester of their choice in Israel and participate in an Ulpan (Hebrew language course), while scholars can arrive at a date of their choice and stay for a total of two months, which could be divided into separate visits. During the last two decades, these competitive grants have been responsible for supporting some of Poland’s leading scholars in the field of Polish-Jewish studies.
