Department Seminar

Dear Faculty Members, Students, and Friends,

The Department of English Literature and American Studies at Tel Aviv University will be holding three meetings of its seminar this semester, now moderated by us, Orit and Nitzan, doctoral students from the Department. We thank Dr. Jonathan Stavsky for organizing the seminar in previous years. As in previous meetings, we will discuss a text of the presenter's work, to be sent two weeks prior.

The first meeting will feature Dr. Shachar Livne, who researches the cross-cultural as well as intertextual relations between the Italian literary tradition of the fourteenth century and the medieval English nascent culture. The meeting will take place on Sunday, June 30th, from 12:15-13:45, in Gilman 449. If you plan on joining us, please RSVP at kleinvartsky@mail.tau.ac.il or at familia@mail.tau.ac.il. The text we will be discussing is attached.

In the second meeting, Prof. Yael Sternhell from the Department of History and the American Studies program will present a work in progress. Prof. Sternhell specializes in the American Civil War and its long aftermath, the American South and the social history of archives, and she has also written on rumours, emancipation, and the antiwar turn in Civil War scholarship. The meeting will take place on Sunday, July 14th, from 12:15-13:45, in Gilman 496.

The third meeting will be with Prof. and Lacanian psychoanalyst Shirley Zisser, whose book, The Linguistic Turn of the English Renaissance: A Lacanian Perspective, was recently published by Routledge. Prof. Zisser's book examines a selection of cultural phenomena of the English Renaissance, all of which include a focus on language, from a Lacanian perspective. The meeting will take place on Sunday, July 28th, from 12:15-13:45, in Gilman 496.

Best wishes,

Orit and Nitzan.
