Research Seminar April 30th: Mònica Colominas - Transmission of Knowledge and Religious Difference in Pre-Modern Christian Spain. The seminar will take place in Gilman 449 at 18:00.

26 April 2018

It is a well-known fact that religious difference between Christians, Muslims and Jews in Medieval and Early Modern Christian Spain was organized on a system of law based on taxation. Still the dynamics of the living together between religious communities make relevant the question recently raised by Anna Akasoy about the significance of religion in the transmission of knowledge in the pre-modern period. In this presentation, I will discuss how knowledge was organized and distributed inside the communities of Muslims who had the status of religious minorities in the Christian territories (commonly known as Mudejars), with particular attention to their literature of religious polemics with the Christians and the Jews.
